Kim' is a name that can be both male and female and means 'ruler/ruleress' or 'fighter/fighteress'. The portrait shows a figure that has both masculine and feminine parts. The look is appraising, calm, unwavering but not aggressive or challenging. The firmness and stability of Kim's character is underlined by the pictorial technique, which has a 'stony' texture, as if Kim could also be a sculpture.
Marita Braun lives in Baden-Baden and works there in the 'Alte Fabrik' community studio. After studying at the Hochschule für Grafik, WIrtschaft und Design, she worked in the creative field of marketing, completed a 7-year evening course at the Offenburg School of Art and has been working as an independent artist for over 10 years. Her large-format portraits and floral paintings are a play between abstraction and figuration. She works the motifs out of an initially abstract background and then incorporates them again. In this way, she creates works of figurative abstraction that show great depth and mysticism.
