Ancient stone moss-covered temple wall with relief statue, Sri Lanka.
The historic town of Polonnaruwa is full of ruins and sights from the 11th to the 13th century. These were the heyday of Sri Lankan sculpture. The city actually consists of three parts, Dalada Maluwa, the northern monuments and the royal citadel. Most of the ruins are in the Dalada Malawu, also called Quadrangle (square). The royal citadel contains the remains of the royal palace and the audience hall.
