At the end of the 18th century, it became out of fashion to paint still lifes overflowing with flowers and fruit. Henriette Geertruida Knip capitalized on this and here watercolored only a few varieties and also omitted the vase. Her ornate flower arrangements were very popular. In 1819, for example, she won a silver medal in Paris with one of her flower watercolors
