I took this photo on a bleak autumn day on the Brabantse Wal near Ossendrecht.
This impressive natural phenomenon is a place where the high, wooded sandy soils abruptly merge into the open sea clay polders.
From the steep embankment, with a height difference of up to 20 metres, you can enjoy spectacular views over the vast polder landscape.
In clear weather, even the striking cooling towers of Doel nuclear power plant and the industrial skyline of the port of Antwerp appear on the horizon.
All these elements come together in this image, which is given extra power by the impressive cloud cover in which a flight of birds passes by.
