This picture was taken in one of the many rooms in an abandoned sanatorium in Abkhazia.
Abkhazia doesn't exist for everyone. This means that it is a de facto state and only partially recognized republic. In 1999 Abkhazia declared its independence from Georgia. 5 countries in the world (members of the United Nations; Russia, Syria, Nicaragua, Venezuela and Nauru) recognise Abkhazia. All other countries (including members of the United Nations) legally consider Abkhazia as part of Georgia. Abkhazia lies between Georgia and Russia and has about 250,000 inhabitants.
Roman Robroek is a photographer who captures forgotten places around the world. In particular, he is focused on creating stunning pho-tos of abandoned locations, rich with wonder, mystery and unanswered questions.
