This painting hangs as an original in my kitchen. For years I have looked with great fondness at this late acrylic painting that I made a few years ago, just before I switched from technique to India ink. Another beautiful one hangs in the room, in the same style. The originals are not for sale and hang beautifully in our own interior. But now I thought it was time to digitize this work in order to make more people happy with it.
Before I had children I mainly painted with acrylic paint on large canvases. The original of this painting is painted on a canvas of 1x1 meter with a thickness of 4cm. I loved the feeling of my fingers in the acrylic, but it turned out not to be combined with small children. After birth I only made a few canvases, to leave my brushes unused for years afterwards. My style changed from acrylic to india ink and from large to small. All this to be able to combine it with small children.
Now that the children are growing up, it may be time to get back to acrylic paint, but I have also discovered a love for my inks and for the digital world.
I am a creative person, always trying to open doors that seemed closed before. Discovering new things, experimenting. Go further, but also to reflect.
In a painting I always have a very strong feeling that looking to the left means reflection and looking to the right means continuing, moving on. Perhaps inspired by the way we read our written language, from left to right. In this painting, therefore, reflection is paramount. The woman who looks back on her life in order to be able to continue.
In this acrylic painting, the colors brown, black and white are paramount. A calm, earthy and warm color palette.
This painting also exists in a colorful variant with pink in the leading role: https://www.werkaandemuur.nl/nl/shopwerk/abstract-portrait-van-een-woman-schilderij-in-acrylverf/1083602
