The trees in Deadvlei, Namibia are petrified and arid, standing out like ghostly silhouettes against the vast orange and red sand dunes. Their skeletal branches twist whimsically and stretch skyward, devoid of leaves or any other sign of life. Deadvlei is part of Sossusvlei in Namibia, and this is a close up of the sharp contrast between the red-orange colour of the sand dunes and the white ground on which the arid trees stand.
Deadvlei (or Valley of the Dead) is located in the great Namib Desert. This image was taken in the early morning when the colours are bright and sharp.
