The town owes its name to the former castle and later fortress, which was first mentioned in 1241.
It was mentioned in documents for the first time. On the Königstein itself, it stands on a sandstone rock above the
Elbe valley and looks down majestically on the village. Due to its immediate, central location, Königstein is an ideal
starting point for excursions and hikes in Saxon and Bohemian Switzerland.
Hikers will find peace and relaxation in the wild and romantic valleys and charming views on the table mountains in the near vicinity of the town.
