Sailing Milford Sound, New Zealand. Imposing fjords in Fiordland on the South Island, it is the best known and most touristic fjord in New Zealand. In the background you can just see the ice-tongue of the glacier. The fjord is about 16 km long to the open sea and 100 to 450 meters deep. Typical are the high and very steep rocks around the fjord. These rocks are up to 1200 meters high.
There are several tourist attractions, such as cruises on the fjord and the underwater observatory. There are also sea lions and other animals swimming in the fjords. The highest point of the fjord is the Mitre Peak with a height of 1692 meters.
