Boats at the Pak Ou cave, Laos.
25 kilometers from Luang Prabang are the Pak Ou Caves. They're actually two caves. One is about sixty meters above the Mekong, the other on the bank, here are most of the statues. The caves themselves are also spectacular. In the caves there are over 4,000 Buddha statues. This is a very impressive sight.
The Laotians call the Pak Ou Caves the 'Tam Ting', also known as the 'caves of the thousands of Buddhas'.
In the 8th century the 'spirit of nature', Phi, was already honored here.
This was even before Buddhism was known in Laos. The Buddha statues were later placed in the caves when Buddhism was accepted by the royal family in Laos. Boat trips are organized at the Pak Ou Caves. You get to the caves with one of these boats.
I like to take pictures of nature and landscapes. Travelling is my passion. I also like to occasionally apply in photoshop effects, or create new designs, thus creating digital art. Also art and culture in other countries have my interest. I created many albums in my shop: panoramas, landscapes, animals, people, flowers, various countries, buddhas and more. Besides photography I am involved in sculpting and painting. My other work can be seen on https://www.rietjebulthuis.nl
