The British Museum is the national museum of the United Kingdom and is located on Great Russell Street in London. Its collection of artifacts is among the largest collections in the world.
Over 6 million people visit the museum each year, which holds an extensive collection of antiquities and exceptional artifacts from ancient and contemporary civilizations. The collection spans over a million years of human history and is considered one of the finest in the world. The oldest objects are stone tools from the Oldowan period (1,600,000 to 700,000 B.C.), most new coins; the largest object is a 16-ton gate with a winged bull from Dur-Sharrukin, the smallest a barely 0.002 gram coin from Nepal.
