Bryce Canyon is a National Park located in the southwestern part of the U.S. state of Utah. Bryce Canyon is famous for its unique geological rock formations. The combined forces of freezing and thawing slowly erode the limestone and sandstone formations, forming what are known as hoodoos. The eroded tops create beautiful formations that appear very mysterious in the sunlight. The sun creates shades of the rocks' colors. The colors range from pink to orange. It is part of the Grand Staircase.
The park gets its name from Mormon pioneer Ebenezer Bryce, who lived at the base of Bryce Canyon from 1875 to 1880. In 1924, the area was declared a national park. In earlier times, Bryce Canyon was a nightmare for cattle drives; it was impractical to maintain an overview of the herd in this area.
