Cappadocia is a historical area in central Anatolia, mainly in Nevşehir province in modern Turkey. In the time of Herodotus, Cappadocia reportedly covered the entire area from the Taurus Mountains to the Euxine region (on the Black Sea), with the southern border of the Taurus Mountains separating it from Cilicia, the eastern border of the upper Euphrates and the Armenian plateau, the northern border of Pontus and the western border Lycaonia and eastern Galatia. The name has been traditionally used throughout history in Christian sources and is still widely used as an international tourism concept in Turkey to define an area that has a number of natural wonders, particularly "fairy chimneys" and unique Anatolian and Turkish heritage.
