Realistic painting in acrylics by the Dutch painter and pupil of Rembrandt: Carel Fabritius, together with one of his preserved paintings "De Schildwacht" (The Sentinel), painted by the artist Paul Meijering - the original painting is 90 x 90 cm and available for sale.
Carel Fabritius (Middenbeemster, baptized 27 February 1622 - Delft, 12 October 1654) was a Dutch painter of the seventeenth century.
Carel Fabritius is generally regarded as Rembrandt's most talented pupil, for whom, among others, Vincent van Gogh expressed admiration. Fabritius painted history paintings, portraits, still lifes and townscapes. His interest in light, perspective and trompe-l'oeil made him one of the founders of the so-called Delft School, of which Johannes Vermeer is the best known representative.
His painting career came to an abrupt end in 1654, when he was killed in the explosion of the Delft powder magazine. It is likely that part of his work was lost in this disaster. As far as is known, some fifteen paintings and a dozen drawings have survived.
For almost 33 years now, Paul Meijering has been active with the paint brushes. As a 17- year old inspired youngster he joined the Academy of Arts in Enschede (Holland) in order to receive a native training in drawing- and painting technique.
