A calm image of an approaching wave. The sea is green as on a Caribbean island. The water is clear, mixing the yellow color of the sand with the blue from the sky, resulting in the green color.
The location is Harris, which forms a dichotomy with Lewis, one of the Outer Hebrides on the west coast of Scotland. On the west coast of Harris, with well-known beaches of Luskentyre and Sgarasta, there is a standing stone on a hill; it is called MacLeod's Stone. The photo was taken at the foot of the hill. A serene spot, you can look at the hills and the sea for a long time.
Landscapes and townscapes are my favourite subjects. I search for beauty in the image; that can come from any of the compositional elements such as lines, shapes, rhythms, light/dark, colour combinations. For me a photograph is successful, when I can hang it on the wall and enjoy it for months without getting irritated about imperfections. My subjects are mostly outside, in nature or in the city. On the many trips I make, but also close to home. My photographs are regularly published in newspapers and magazines. My photographs have also been shown in several exhibitions in the Alphen region. I learned a lot in the three years (2007 to 2010) that I lived, worked and photographed in the United States. Meanwhile, I have published two photo books with pictures of Alphen aan den Rijn, where I live.
