About "Cave on the Death Railway in Thailand"

About the artwork

Krasae Cave is a special place to visit. The Death Railway runs past Krasae Cave and it is said that this is one of the most beautiful places the railway passes. Funnily enough, not many people have discovered this wonderful place yet. Not a Wikipedia page or a piece in the Lonely Planet.

Krasae cave was used as a campsite by the prisoners of war during the construction of the Death Railway in WWII. Now there is a large golden Buddha statue in the cave and it is a sacred place.

When I was there, I was the only one in the cave except for 1 local. A little boy of about 6 years old who had come to the shrine to light incense. The boy found my camera very interesting and asked (with hands and feet) if he could hold the camera. Of course I gave him my camera, such a sweet face you do not easily say no to! Soon he started to take pictures of everything around him. What a nice sight to see, so enthusiastic. It reminded me of my first time holding a camera. I was doing exactly the same thing as this little boy. I like to think that this moment may have been an important one for him. That it sparked a dream to photograph, just as it did for me so many years ago.
