Roman Robroek - Photos of Abandoned Buildings Profile picture This is a photo of a beautiful room in an abandoned sanatorium. The sanatorium is located in an area that is famous for its radon-carbonate mineral springs, whose natural temperature of 33–35 °C enables the water to be used without preliminary heating. The area was especially popular in the Soviet era, attracting around 125.000 visitors a year. Stalin regularly visited a bathing house here.

Since the 90's, many of these abandoned sanatoriums in the area have been devoted to housing refugees due to the conflict in Abkhazia. We've met a couple refugees who lived in this building, and all of them were very kind. This sanatorium looked best compared to all the others we've visited in the same area.
