This is a picture of the ceiling of a beautiful theatre in decay. The original theatre was built in the 17th century. Due to irreparable deterioration it was demolished in the early 20th century. However, four years later a new theatre was built, that's what you see in this picture. Initially the theatre was found to be 'too modern', and another architect redesigned the place in art deco style with art nouveau details. This was much more appreciated by the public. Unfortunately, the theatre was severely damaged by an earthquake a few years ago and has been abandoned ever since.
Roman Robroek is a photographer who captures forgotten places around the world. In particular, he is focused on creating stunning pho-tos of abandoned locations, rich with wonder, mystery and unanswered questions.
