I had a wonderful few days in Copenhagen in December a few years ago. As well as riding a boat around the islands I thoroughly enjoyed the sightseeing by foot, walking around the canals and across bridges.
One area that was particularly striking is shown here in this image which includes Christiansborg Palace in Slotsholmen. This is not just a fabulous series of buildings and architectural design, it is also very important. It used to be the main residence for Danish Kings but it now houses the Danish parliament, the prime ministers office and also the Supreme Court of Denmark.
As you can see there are very impressive, and attractive set of buildings all nestled together. The tower is particularly striking I think. Known as the blue tower, it used to house political prisoners.
In the grounds of the palace there are also the ruins of an older castle going back to 1167.
