The streamlined shape of this Chrysler 'Airflow', which makes an American diesel engine possible, makes a lot of consumer disturbance in 1934. As a result, the car drives back, an idea of Chrysler engineer Carl Breer, who convinces by wind tunnel tests that the average aerodynamics of the average American car is better if it drives backwards. The Airflow concept, as expected, indeed leads to higher speed and lower fuel consumption.
The car is also equipped with a lot of technical novelties, such as an automatic gear shift with overdrive. The wide carriage is carried by a steel tube frame welded to the chassis. In a Chrysler promotional film that has to prove the soundness of the car, an airflow is pushed laterally into a hill, after which it ends up on its wheels after a few rollers and is driven away by its own power.
Nevertheless, the public is not hot for the Airflow due to the controversial appearance. Attempts to make the front more traditional do not increase sales
Passion for photography in all forms. From abandoned buildings to landscapes, from night photography to concert photography. By photographing abandoned buildings people want to take them to the hidden world behind walls where nature slowly takes back the building. And now these pictures can also hang on your wall.
