About ‘City gate in the Drogenapstoren in Zutphen. ’ by Ron Poot

The Drogenapstoren is named after Thonis Drogenap, the city tower musician who lived in the sixteenth century. The tower, originally the Saltpoort (salt gate) called, was built in 1444 to 1446 as a city gate of Zutphen. He has only recently served as a city gate because he was bricked up in 1465. From 1888 to 1927 the tower was used as a water tower. After 1927 Zutphen the board decided to build a new water tower to replace the tank in the Drogenapstoren. In World War II the Drogenapstoren was partially inflated, with the Germans without them knew simultaneously destroyed a part of the weapons arsenal of the Resistance.
