Meijendel is a vast wetland dune and nature area west of southern Wassenaar and north of The Hague (Scheveningen) Meijendel has a size of about 2000 ha and, together with the adjacent Hollands Duin, forms the largest contiguous dune area in South Holland. The name Meijendel originated because a farm stood in a valley, named after the many hawthorns that grew in the area.
