Catania is a beautiful, enchanting harbour town at the foot of the Etna volcano. A large part of the historic city centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Sicilian city is characterised by a Mediterranean atmosphere and is located on the east coast of Sicily.
This architectural image captivates with a remarkable and charming art installation in the historic old town centre, not far from the Pesceria (Catania's famous fish market).
The photographic motif was taken with the NIKON D800 and a Nikkor lens (24.0-70.0 mm f/2.8) on 3 January 2025.
Catania is the epitome of the Italian way of life: Vespas clatter through the alleyways and colourful washing flutters on the line above. On one side, baroque churches with impressive domes and melodious bells and, as a profane counterpart, the smell of fresh fish on the pesceria.
The city's architecture, a testimony to its history of destruction and renewal, is characterised by wide avenues, large squares and a unique use of lava as the main building material. This mixture of natural forces and architectural ingenuity gives Catania its unmistakable character and charm.
