Castiglione del Lago, in Umbria, Italy, is a large, picturesque, town that sits on the shores of Lago Trasimeno, the largest lake in Central Umbria. The town has a fortress looking out over the lake. It also boasts a ferry terminal where passengers can go over to visit the islands or towns on the opposite shore like Passignano sul Trasimeno.
Castiglione del Lago is very popular with tourists and Italians alike. Buzzing with tourists in the summer, the various delicatessens that line the main street are a big attraction. In this image we see a view along a row of those delicatessens. Delicatessens line the road on both sides and you can taste the local pecorino (sheep) cheese, ham and sausages before buying them. They also sell local olive oil, brightly colored pasta, wine and items made out of olive wood. Some of them offer meals, large platters of local meats and cheese served with local wine.
