Johannes Jacobsz van den Aveele, supervision Johan Teyler, 1688-1698
Diana was the Roman goddess of the hunt (Diana Venatrix), as well as of wild nature, of birth (Diana Lucina) and of the moon (Diana Lucifera). An important characteristic of the goddess was that she always wanted to remain a virgin, she was therefore also the protector of chastity.
Here the woman stands naked with a view from the back. The nude model stands with legs, buttocks, hip and back exposed in the portrait. The nymphs are women who also stand on the nude portrait with belly and buttocks on the artwork.
All in all a sexy and sensual erotic picture with romance.
Technique: engraving (printing process) / à la poupée / color print in red, blue, green and brown
