The Dolomites are a mountain range in Italy that is part of the Southern Limestone Alps. Typical of the Dolomites are the steep cliffs and peaks, created by erosion and weathering. The mountain range is divided into two parts: the eastern and western. The Dolomites' highest peak, the Marmolada, is 3343 metres high. Around 15 more mountains reach the 3,000-metre mark. In 2009, the Dolomites were added to UNESCO's World Heritage List.
