The Eiger is a 3970 m high mountain in Switzerland, in the Berne Oberland region. The Eiger was first climbed in 1858 by Charles Barrington, Christian Almer and their companions over its west flank. While the Eiger is not a four-thousander like the nearby Jungfrau and Mönch, it is considered the most difficult to climb. Its steep north face is a classic challenge, known as the most dangerous route in Europe.
