Rotterdam is a beautiful city. The combination of old grandeur and modern architecture makes the city as fascinating as it is multifaceted. Grandeur from buildings like the White House in the old port, Hotel New York on the Kop van Zuid and the town hall on the Coolsingel. Modern architecture such as De Rotterdam by architect Rem Koolhaas, the Market Hall, Central Station and of course the Erasmus Bridge. The latter is explicitly present in the photo, as is the Zalmhaven Tower, at 215 meters the highest tower in the Netherlands (at the moment).
It is an hour after sunset, the last sunlight colors the sky on the horizon deep blue and orange. A long shutter speed of 30 seconds was necessary to catch enough light. As a result, the car lights on the bridge form long white and red stripes, further emphasizing the city's bustle. The 139 meter high pylon and the cables of the Erasmus Bridge are beautifully illuminated by the spotlights. Because of the bend in the pylon, the bridge was nicknamed 'The Swan' by the locals. A photo like this fits beautifully in a modern urban interior with black and gray tones. If you live in Rotterdam this picture belongs on your wall!
Amateur photographer and curious hiker. Often on the road, always with a camera. I photograph what catches my attention, what makes an impression. My challenge is to capture that, together with the emotion, the commotion of that moment. With a fascination for lines, patterns, shapes and colors in nature.
