The bay trees of Fanal are perhaps the most famous site on Madeira Island. Located high in the mountains, this unique area is part of the Unesco world heritage.
This forest is over 600 years old and consists entirely of stately laurel trees, which create a magical atmosphere in the mist.
I took this image at the end of my visit, when the mist rolled in over the hills. This composition was my favourite, with about three trees as the main subject. With the rest of the forest shrouded in dense fog in the background.
