The hand of a woman feeding pigeons, some of them flying around, in a sunny afternoon in Plaza San Pedro Claver, Cartagena de Indias, Colombia.
My inspiration for taking this photograph was seeing this common scene in a urban atmosphere: people feed pigeons or birds, usually in squares, because these birds live there: anywhere they can find easily some food and that generally is in the city centre, the heart of any given city. So, pigeons have a strong symbolism of public space, squares or gardens in an urban area.
On this capture, three elements are strong enough to define this image: the woman's arm stretched out and her hand as a plate, the pigeons eating and two of them flying around waiting for the opportunity to approach, and the blurry background that helps us understand this is a colonial city, thanks to a wooden window, and a worn out wall in white and yellow -two colors often used in colonial architecture- stained by the beautiful light of the sun getting through the leaves and branches of an imaginary tree.
The result is an image that gives the feeling of cozyness, of being not that far away from home. A nostalgic vibe is also present.
I'm Argentinian but I live in Lyon, France. I am a graphic designer, photographer and traveler. Passionate about cycling, nature, the simple little moments in life. Photography above all, taught me to be conscious, to open my eyes, to get out of the automatic and routine mode, and that is precisely what I claim with my photos: to share them and provoke the same reactions. With photography everything becomes unique, because a moment is immortalized forever. I love photography that provokes strong feelings, sometimes with few elements.
