Between Bemmel and Huissen is a small chapel on top of a hill. The chapel, in honor of Our Lady of the Flowering Betuwe, was built in 1946.
In the final months of the Second World War, this was the site of a hand-to-hand combat between the British and the Germans. Nowadays, when a greenhouse is built or a road constructed in this area, pieces of a skeleton, a number plate or ammunition are sometimes found. The chapel on this spot is also a place of rest, where people can reflect on what happened in this landscape.
Procession
Until the sixties, every year on Mother's Day a procession was held to the chapel, as a thanksgiving to Mary.
It is also called "the chapel on the hill".
