oil on canvas
Creativity was already an important part of my life as a child. But it wasn't until later, after the birth of my first child, that I began to study art in depth, attending seminars on still life and portraiture to familiarise myself with the subject matter, followed by years of self-taught study. Since 2009, I have been intensively involved in acrylic painting and a little later, oil painting was added. I regularly seek advice on this from an artist from Kleve and one of my favourite artists is Edward Hopper. His play with light and shadow fascinates me and the inspiration for my paintings often comes from my mood at the time. There are days when I feel like working realistically and other days when I want to try something abstract. However, a recurring element in my work is the use of complementary contrasts and the ideas often come from everyday life. For example, I cook in the evening and see some ingredients lying decoratively on the worktop. Or I remember a nice holiday and want to preserve the memory in a picture.
