Despite the fact that the Namib Desert in Namibia is perhaps one of the driest places on earth, we were treated on this early morning to a beautiful veil of mist over Deadvlei. This famous valley, surrounded by huge dunes, still contains the remains of several Acacia trees. The remaining skeletons of the trees, believed to be about 900 years old, have been blackened by the sun. Although they are not petrified, they do not decay because it is too dry. However, the short night was immediately forgotten upon witnessing these magical conditions that morning. From the moment the sun shone above the huge orange sand dunes of this valley, the fog disappeared as quickly as it came.
