The first version of the Ford Anglia was the 123E. The car was a family car, but it was also available with a more powerful engine. It came with a 1198cc engine and was marketed as the 'Super' model. The car was sold in Italy alongside the 123E Anglia Super. Both models had the same basic features, but the 123E Deluxe had more luxurious touches, including leather upholstery and wood trim.
The second generation of the Anglia was a little more stylish. The Sportsman was the first European version. The Anglia had a spare tyre in the boot and a sports kit. This car was more stylish than the earlier models, with chrome bumper overriders and broad whitewall tires. The front bumper featured an optional side stripe that kicked up into the taillights.
The Ford Anglia's engine was revolutionary. The three-cylinder unit had a crankshaft with two hollow bearings, which is why the car was capable of generating more torque. The rear window was also reverse-raked, which meant that there was no rear parcel shelf. The boot opened wide, and the car was easy to move around. The rear passenger compartment was roomy and the front seats were comfortable.
