Frida is by far the most famous painter in Mexico and Latin America.
Her eventful life contributed to her myth: her illness, her sufferings, her marriage and her affairs. In addition, there was her revolutionary zeal and a passionate patriotism. Frida liked to show herself in traditional costume; her hairstyle pinned up in the manner of the women from Oaxaca and dressed with their traditional jewelry. In this way, she consciously emphasized her indigenous roots in public.
Her lady mustache and the eyebrows grown together become her "trademark" in her self-portraits. She often emphasizes them much more than they were in reality.
