A film scene inspired me to transform a photograph I took in 2013 of Cortlandt Alley in New York into a film set. Virtually nothing you see matches reality. The buildings exist but not as depicted here. Furthermore, steam has been added and the colours and contrast greatly modified. A movie scene inspired me to transform a photo I made in 2013 in a secluded street in Lower Manhattan: Cortlandt Alley, on the borders of Chinatown, Tribeca and SoHo.
This is, especially in the evening, a totally deserted alley. They film here regularly for commercials. Almost nothing you see is real; steam, buildings, colours. Of course, the buildings you see really exist, but not in the way they are presented here.
Because I have a b&w camera, I had to add colour. And by doing some research how a movie street scene would look like, I came to this result.
Welcome to my photographic webshop. I am Nico Geerlings and my passion for photography started in 1990.
My main interest lies in capturing unique moments on the street in all its forms; interactions between people or between people and their surroundings, but also so-called street portraits, where I look for a combination of beautiful light and silence in the early morning hours. I usually roam the streets in cities like Amsterdam, Paris and New York with my camera.
If you don't find what you are looking for in my webshop, please have a look at my photostream site on Flickr (https://www.flickr.com/photos/nico_geerlings/) and mail me which photo you are interested in and would like to hang on your wall.
