The decorative leaves of the green palm fern meet Mediterranean sunlight. This close-up is dedicated to the subtle effect of light shining through the slender leaves.
Cycas Revoluta is an ornamental plant that can be found in gardens along the Mediterranean coast. It is originally from Asia, which is why the plant is also called Japanese palm fern (sago palm fern). Palm ferns belong neither to palms, nor to ferns. They combine the characteristics of both. Japanese palm fern enchants with its fern-like leaves and a palm-like trunk.
Palm ferns, also known as living fossils, are among the oldest plants in the world and grow relatively slowly. However, they can grow very old and develop into impressive plants as they age.
The elegant fronds of the Japanese palm fern are deep green. They are composed of narrow, very densely arranged leaflets. It is interesting to observe the unfolding of the young leaves: similar to young ferns, they are initially curled. The botanical name Revoluta (rolled back) denotes this formal conspicuousness.
Impressions of the Mediterranean coast. My photographic work is dedicated to the beaches and mountains of the Costa Blanca in Spain. Inspired by long hikes, bright sunlight, plants and sea water. I would like to share my impressions with you and bring the enchantment of the Mediterranean coast into your home.
