My name is Carolien van Schie As a Fine-Art photographer, I have a predilection for still lifes and portraits. Characteristic for my photos is the lighting, the so-called Rembrandt light. I love this atmospheric and special light. In addition, I always use warm and natural colours for my photos to create a painterly effect. I look for the things I use for my photos mainly in thrift shops and at flea markets. The older and more worn-out they look, the better!
I usually paint the backgrounds for my photos myself. That way, I can play with colours and textures to achieve the desired effect. And to give my still lifes that extra something, I often choose to add a live animal. Of course, it is then no longer a real still life, but for me it makes the photo just that little bit more exciting. The portraits I make are different from a standard portrait. By using light, clothing and colour, an 'ordinary' portrait is transformed into a picturesque photo with its own atmosphere and feeling. A work of art for your wall!
