This is a central point within the thick town walls of Castiglione del Lago in Umbria. You enter into this area either from the main square in the town itself or from outside the town walls where there is car parking. One of these archways leads down a series of steps down to the car parking area, olive trees and Lago Trasimeno below. This large space has five door ways and a stairway up to another level as well as the stairs down to the car park. It gives you an idea of the sheer size of the walls on some of these medieval towns and the buildings that sit inside them. Most of the doors open onto large reception halls. It is lovely and cool in this area and a welcome relief from the light and heat of the Italian sunshine when you walk in.
