The popular town of Wernigerode with its historic town center and elaborately restored and colorful half-timbered houses is located on the northern edge of the Harz Mountains. The nickname "colorful city on the Harz" was coined by the German writer Hermann Löns at the end of the 19th century. The town hall on the market square, the leaning house, the smallest house and the oldest house are just some of these features that make up the rich half-timbered idyll of Wernigerode.
Extensive forests in the change to wilderness, bizarre rocks, millennia-old moors, original brooks and the majestic Brocken. In this legendary mountain wilderness, not only lynx and wildcat feel at home.
The Harz National Park is a forested nature reserve in northern central Germany that extends across the states of Saxony-Anhalt and Lower Saxony.
