Honey bee (Apis melifera) on marigold (calendula officinalis)
A young Honey Bee tries to climb out of a marigold. Because the flower petals were up, this was still quite a climb. This gave me some more time to photograph. Because of my work as an image editor for the magazine Bijenhouden I am very focused on bees in general. This photo is more of a "lucky-shot" I came across this scene in my own garden. For the shot I used a Leica rangefinder camera equipped with an electronic viewfinder and a bellows. This allowed me to shoot very close. Still, this was the only shot that was completely sharp. The color of the marigold makes it a very summery photo that can and will brighten any interior.
After years of working as a combat-photographer for the Ministry of Defence, I now take it a bit easier and mainly photograph industrial subjects or subjects with a history.
