A dolmen is a megalithic burial chamber from the Neolithic period (4000-3000 BC) consisting of at least three but often (many) more standing stones, covered by one (or more) capstones.
According to the prevailing theory, dolmens are the remains of prehistoric burial chambers.
The photograph shows one of the two dolmens at Rolde. These two dolmens are located at the northern edge of the village. They are located behind the medieval Jacobuskerk past the cemetery.
