As I was walking through Groningen, a striking encounter caught my attention: a lone dove that remained undisturbed, despite the rain steadily descending. While most creatures hid from the precipitation, this dove seemed to embrace the wet environment, like a symbol of intransigence amid the elements.
Under the shelter of a chip shop, I decided to capture the scene, choosing the dove as the central element and Groningen's iconic skyline as the backdrop. The dove, its plumage gleaming with rain, stood there like a lone sentinel, an oasis of calm amid the bustling city life.
The photograph intriguingly captures the contrast between the dove's serene determination and the dynamism of the city of Groningen. The image tells a story of resilience and perseverance, reminding us that beauty can sometimes be found in the most unexpected moments and places.
It all started with a4 paper and HB pencils. As a child I was often impressed by how beautiful the world around me was. The urge to capture this beautiful world, and to show the people around me what I saw, was actually there from the beginning. If I remember correctly, I was about eleven years old when I first met the camera. Of course it was a simple compact camera with a ridiculous quality, but I enjoyed it.
I sometimes said I wanted to be a photographer, but of course you have one of the two parents who says, "Dream on." Strangely enough, I followed the sarcastic remark as advice, and still went to study photography.
