We can easily say that this picture is made in Netherlands! Where else do they massively get on the ice when it has been freezing? The ladies wear their ordinary shoes, where they have bound under the irons with leather straps. Quite an achievement to move forward, but they undoubtedly succeeded. Back in those days there were many more cold winters, so they could exercise much more often than today. It looks like they are going to get into a long string, to swirl and spin across the ice. The rear young lady looks a little lost. Understandable, because she isn’t wearing skates. But perhaps she can swap places with one of her friends. That's the big advantage of strap-on-skates! A wonderful nostalgic photograph that makes us long for a real winter. (Collection Timeview, Winter Wonderland, Ice Skating 1918)
