Often the guides in the game reserves drive past the impalas. On the one hand, understandable as many tourists come mainly for the big-5 but these animals are also so much fun to observe. And I also find them very tough and smart. Did you know, for instance, that they make a sound (very special sound by the way) when they pass lions. With this, they seem to be saying 'we know you are near but please don't bother because we are faster anyway ? '. And they do.
And what I noticed at Leadwood big game estate where I photographed this impala, is that during the time of the little ones (December/January), you sit whole groups of them with a few older impalas joining them. So even with impalas, the mothers bring their little ones to the creche:-).
