The Indian rhino or armoured rhino (Rhinoceros unicornis) is a mammal of the rhino family (Rhinocerotidae). The scientific name of the species was published in 1758 by Carl Linnaeus.
The Indian rhino distinguishes itself from the other two Asian rhinos by its size, large head, strongly developed neck folds and only two skin folds on the belly. The Indian rhino has one 60 cm long horn, which consists of knotted together keratin fibres and not horn bone. The skin is gray-brown. On average, the animal is about 1.75 - 2 meters high (shoulder height) and has an average weight of 1800 - 2200 kilograms. The tail is 70 to 80 cm long.
