This is one of a series of images taken from inside the town walls of Panicale in Umbria, Italy. Panicale is a medieval walled town positioned high on a mountain with fabulous views down to the valley below.
The town is encircled by a wall with various entrance points. The wall is made up of terraced buildings, many containing apartments. The main street that follows the line of the wall is curved and there are many points where there are arches or links built between one side of the street and the other as shown here.
In this image we see beautiful old Italian architecture and flagstones. As always, given the strength of the Italian sun even in winter, the streets are a wonderful interplay of light and shade. Cars can travel down this street but in places it can get quite narrow. Driving within the walls is not for the faint of heart!
