The Yeni Cami or Yeni Mosque is a mosque in the Turkish city of Istanbul, in the Eminönü district. The mosque is located at the entrance to the Egyptian bazaar, not far from the Galata Bridge over the Golden Horn, which connects the Eminönü district with Galata.
Work on the Yeni Cami began in 1597 by architect Davut Ağa, commissioned by Sultan Mehmet III, who had the mosque built as a tribute to Safiye Sultan, his mother. The following year, the architect was replaced by Dalgıç Ahmed Ağa. When Mehmet died in 1603, construction fell silent. It was not until 1661 that construction began again, commissioned by Sultan Mehmet IV's mother, Hatice Turhan Sultan. The architect this time was Mustafa Ağa, and the complex was completed in 1663.
