Italian landscape with umbrella pines Voogd, Hendrik 1807 Voogd was called the ?Dutch Claude?" after the French painter Claude Lorrain, who was famous for his historical landscapes bathed in golden light. Voogd painted the gardens of the Villa Borghese in Rome late in the afternoon: the sun casts long shadows and the trees stand out sharply against the sky. Walkers enjoy the beautiful sunset. In the foreground, an artist sits drawing against a tree. Rijksmuseum Rights: CC0
