Jaguar Type D 1956
Like its predecessor Jaguar C-Type, the Jaguar D-Type is a factory-built racing car. The Jaguar D-Type had a straight-XK engine design. At the beginning it was a 3.4 engine, later also a 3.8, together with the C-Type a revolutionary car in terms of aerodynamics and monocoque chassis. The D-Type was produced purely for motorsport, but after Jaguar stopped building the car for motorsport, the company offered the unfinished chassis as the public-road version of the JaguarXKSS. These cars were given a number of modifications such as a passenger seat, a second door, a full windscreen and a roof. But on 12 February 1957 a fire broke out on Browns Lane plant. The fire destroyed nine of 25 cars that were already finished or almost finished. –
